We are always so grateful for (and slightly in awe of!) the incredible people who take on incredible challenges in support of Open Arms.
Meet Helen, who is running the Edinburgh Half Marathon on May 29th to raise much needed funds for the children at Open Arms Infant Homes.
A special connection
Helen has a special connection with Open Arms, having volunteered at the Infant Homes for two years between 2000-2002 whilst doing her A-levels and then returning to visit the team in Blantyre, when she later lived in Malawi for another two years.
Helen feels her time at Open Arms had a huge impact on her future, showing her the importance of early years intervention and leading her to go on to do a degree in education.
Passionate about little ones, she now runs a playgroup in her hometown in Scotland.
Helen says, “I am so excited to be running for such an amazing cause that I know works hard to protect and care for so many precious little ones. I work running a playgroup and see first hand how vital input is in those early years. I am delighted to help an organisation so committed to working with these little lives and helping them get everything they need and deserve.”
If you would like to encourage Helen in her training by helping her reach her target, you can donate via her JustGiving fundraising page:

All proceeds will support the work of Open Arms Infant Homes.
Thank you for your support Helen and all the very best for your run! We are cheering you on from Harrogate and from Malawi!
“I have benefitted from Open Arms as much as, if not more than, I was or am able to sow into it... so the run is my pleasure! ” - Helen
It's not too late! We still have sponsored places available in either the full or half marathon in Edinburgh this month.
We also have a few places left in several other, unforgettable challenge events!
