Fundraising makes a real difference to Open Arms. Every pound raised helps give vulnerable children a safe start to their little lives, allowing them to look forward to the futures they deserve.
Without dedicated supporters like you, fundraising on our behalf, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do in Malawi.
Do you have charity days at work or could you run an event with some friends?
Coffee mornings are a great way to get into fundraising, as they can be as big or small as you like. Just grab some friends or colleagues, get baking and agree on a date to bring in your goodies. All that’s left is to put the kettle on and have fun.
For a small donation, people can enjoy some cake and a cup of tea – what’s not to love?! If you want to do more, you could even run a competition. We’ve seen competitive bake offs and decoration competitions, guess the weight of the cake and luck dips. You could have a topical theme or encourage charity donations at a get together you’ve already got planned. It really is that easy.
Sporting events are always very popular too, and we regularly have fundraisers running 5Ks, 10Ks and even marathons on our behalf. However, you don’t have to be super fit to get active and take part. We’ve seen dog walks and pram rides raise just as much. All you need is a pair of trainers and some friends or family to sponsor you!
Dress down days are also a great way to raise funds if you work in an office and struggle for time. Could you persuade your boss to have a dress down day at work? It’s usually only £1 to take part and funds can really add up when everyone contributes. Some companies also support with 'match-funding' for fundraising activities, so it’s always worth asking your HR department how this can work for you.
To give you some more ideas, we’ve set up this group. It’s our online community of fundraisers; a place where you can connect with other inspirational people who are committed to helping us. Use it to get ideas for fundraising, ask questions and get practical hints and tips, or just pop by every so often to keep in touch with what other fundraisers are doing around the UK and beyond. You never know when you might find an idea for an event that you’d love to have a go at running yourself!
Whether you’ve got a lot or a little time to give, there are so many ways that you can raise money with us. To show you some of the weird and wonderful things we have seen, we’ve created our 'A to Z of Fundraising' which we think you’ll like. To get your copy email us.
Interested? Why not have a go and make a difference this year? We’d love to hear from you.
