Lancing College Celebrates 42 years of Expeditions to Malawi

Lancing College, a long-term supporter of Open Arms Malawi, celebrated an amazing 42 years of visiting Malawi this year. This milestone was marked with a wonderful Malawian-inspired lunch at the college, attended by over 70 people. The celebration brought together generations of alumni, current and former staff, and distinguished guests, including the High Commissioner of Malawi, Thomas Bisika, and his wife, Mrs Chawona Bisika. Open Arms Malawi was delighted to be invited to the event.

A Legacy of Support and Friendship

For over four decades, Lancing College has nurtured a meaningful relationship with Malawi, supporting various initiatives, including those of Open Arms Malawi. This partnership has not only provided essential support to vulnerable children and families in Malawi but has also given Lancing students invaluable life experiences and a deeper understanding of global humanitarian efforts.

Lancing College first visited Open Arms during their 10th expedition in 2002, led by Matt Smith, who continues to lead the expeditions today. This was the start of a wonderful partnership and in 2012, Lancing College further deepened their involvement by fundraising and supporting the education of Aubrey, Wilson, Norman, and Moses from Rose's House. This initiative not only provided these young boys with educational opportunities but also fostered a meaningful relationship. To this day, Lancing College continues to support them, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to making a difference in their lives.

A Celebration of Memories and Impact

The celebratory event was filled with reminiscing and heartfelt stories as attendees reflected on how their visits to Malawi profoundly impacted their lives. One of the most touching aspects of the event was hearing firsthand how visiting Open Arms had shaped the perspectives and lives of so many.
