3 Teams, 3 Weeks, 1 Huge Difference

Gladys and Adidya, live in Nansenga village. As babies they were cared for by Open Arms Mangochi. They have “graduated” from Open Arms and returned to their extended family in the village.

As a sign of gratitude for the care that Open Arms gave to her granddaughter, Adidya’s grandmother, Laika, has given Open Arms a piece of land and on this land three teams from Johnson and Johnson, will be building our 6th feeding station and nursery school where almost 200 children will benefit from a nursery education and a nutritious daily meal.

Although Mangochi is on the shores of Lake Malawi 85% of the population in this area depend on subsistence farming, and are very poor.

The project is well underway and the new building is starting to take shape!

3 Teams, 3 Weeks, 1 Huge Difference

One of the team shared their impressions of the visit so far “Throughout the build we have been watched by village children. We even had a couple of games of netball with an improvised hoop nailed to a baobab tree and the opposite end a bit of tin rolled and made into a hoop nailed to a small tree trunk and planted in the middle of the ‘road’. We are in the heart of Africa here and it really makes you think of the things we take for granted at home”

The JnJ teams are working with local tradesmen to construct the Nansenga feeding station, enabling free nursery school education and a nutritious meal each day for up to 200 children from the village. They will also be restoring houses damaged in the storms following heavy rains earlier this year.
