Why sponsor a child through Open Arms?

Malawi has made great strides over the last few decades in significantly reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. Through more assisted births, better access to health clinics, childhood vaccines and simple mosquito nets, thousands upon thousands of preventable deaths have been avoided.

However, Malawi still has; 

• the highest premature birth rate in the world (18.1 per 100 births) - a result of child marriages and pregnancies, malnutrition and HIV infection. 
• one of the highest infant mortality rates (34/1,000, ranking 53rd) 
• one of the highest maternal mortality rates (349/100,000, ranking 27th) 
• and therefore extremely high orphan rates, with nearly 1 million children having lost either or both of their parents.

Open Arms was set up in response to these challenges. 

But we can’t do it alone - we need your help.

Providing 24/7, specialised care for these children generates significant costs. Your regular contribution will go towards the costs of food, medicine, the care staff who look after the children, as well as the running costs of the buildings.

When you sign up to support, you will:

• Receive a welcome profile which contains some background information and a recent photograph of your child.
• Receive personalised written updates three times a year which include photographs and details of milestones so that you can follow your child’s development.
• Be able to ask us any specific questions you may have about your child.

But most importantly, you will be helping some of the Malawi's most at-risk children receive lifesaving, life-changing care at a time when they most need it.

In order to arrange your sponsorship, please set up your monthly Direct Debit of £25 by completing the form below, being sure to type 'Sponsor a child' and adding in any preferences (eg. boy or girl) in the additional comments section. 

You will then be contacted by a member of our team who will match you with one of the babies in our Infant Homes and send you their profile.
